Kinds of Sports Cars include the following: |
Sports-prototype sports car
- A sports-prototype sports car is made for sports car racing.
- Its automotive design is a few steps up from a road super car.
- It is a purpose-built sport car designed with enclosed wheels and a closed or open cockpit.
- It is constructed with two seats and a bodywork covering the wheels, making it more technically advanced and generally faster than a single-seat model.
- It usually features rear-wings, dual-shift gearbox, fan-assisted aerodynamics, and ground effect “venture” tunnels.
- It is classified into two subtypes: P1 and P2 sports cars.
- A P1 sports car weighs not less than 900 kilograms. It has a 6000cc naturally aspirated engine and 4000cc turbocharged engine.
- A P2 sports car, on the other hand, weighs around 750 kilograms. It has a 3400cc naturally aspirated engine and a 2000cc turbocharged engine.
Grand touring (GT) sports car
- A grand touring sports car is made for Gran Turismo racing, the most popular sports car racing in the world.
- Its design is based on the road touring version.
- It usually features rear-wings, dual-shift gearbox, fan-assisted aerodynamics, and ground effect “venture” tunnels.
- It is classified into two subtypes: GT1 and GT2.
- A GT1 sports car is a purpose-built sports-prototypes model featuring an exterior closely similar to the sports-prototype model. It has different internal fittings, however.
- A GT2 sports car, on the other hand, is a pure grand touring car featuring very few internal modifications.
