Mothers love to dress up their little tykes and the top choices include cute baby overalls and shortalls. A shortall is an overall where the bottom part is fashioned as a shortpants. The are the preferred choice of mothers because they are easy to use, and babies or toddlers can move freely in them especially when in baby gears such as baby jumpers and baby walkers. A word of caution to all mothers: Some of these clothes can cause harm to your precious kids. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has ordered a recall of some 1,800 pieces of infant and toddler shorthalls after these were found to induce choking. Sarah Lynn Togs, the product manufacturer, is voluntarily offering full refunds for Infant and Toddler Flannel and Gingham shortalls sold nationwide from March 2007 to February 2008. The main culprit is the button on the shoulder strap which essentially holds the whole piece together while it is worn. This button was found to be easily detachable and runs the risk of being swallowed by infants and toddlers. This may lead to choking. A choking child cannot easily cry out even if in pain. If the foreign object is not removed immediately, he or she may turn blue from lack of oxygen. Fortunately, there are still no recorded injuries of choking due to these easily detachable buttons, but precautionary measures are always best observed. Consumers are advised to check their kid's clothes for the said shortalls. The design is plaid blue and red with appliqué embroidered in the front. Sizes included in the recall are 9 month, 12 month, 18 month, 2T, 3T, & 4T. Consumers are advised to contact Sarah Lynn Togs immediately through their hotline or website. The Flannel shortall was sold for $24 while the Gingham one costs $35 dollars, and both were sold in college bookstores, fan shops, boutiques, and gift stores nationwide. |
