ATV Helmet : What is it?
| An ATV helmet is the headgear used when riding an ATV (all-terrain vehicle). It is a very durable helmet with good chin protection. It usually provides a full-face protection that effectively guards against flying debris such as rocks, mud, sand, dirt, and other objects encountered while riding through rough or off-road terrains. It has a portion for strapping in goggles, whether it is full-face or open-face. |

Kinds of ATV Helmets include the following: |
Hybrid ATV helmet
- A hybrid ATV helmet has the features of a street or dirt bike helmet.
- It usually has a detachable sun visor, a flip-down face shield, and air-flow vents that keep the rider cool.
- It can also have a flip-up chin protector.
- It can be worn by riders who wear eyeglasses.
Open-face ATV helmet
- An open-face ATV helmet is preferred by most ATV riders because of its comfortable design; however, it is slowly being replaced by the hybrid ATV helmet.
- It does not provide full-face coverage.
- Even with the protection provided by the goggles, flying debris can still hurt the face, teeth, and skin.

Fit: When buying an ATV helmet, select one that is one size smaller and another one that is one size bigger than your head size to see which one fits you better. It should fit snuggly but not too tightly. It should come off your head easily, but it should not compress your head when worn.
Exterior shell: Look for an ATV helmet with a scratch-resistant outer shell in a bright and solid color for easy visibility.
Features: For superior performance, choose an ATV helmet with snap out cheek pads, a replaceable or washable interior lining, molded goggle pads to keep goggles in place, a wrap-around neck roll to reduce wind noise, and a removable/washable nose filter.
Safety information
Always wear an ATV helmet when riding your ATV, as most injuries caused by ATV crashes occur in the head.
Wearing an approved ATV helmet that meets the ANSI standards can significantly prevent serious head injury. |
