ATV : What is it?
| ATVs or all-terrain vehicles are small and open motorized vehicles designed for off-road use for recreation, sports, and utilitarian purposes. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) describes ATVs as vehicles that travel on low pressure tires made up of a seat straddled by a single operator and two handlebars for steering control.
ATVs come in different versions, but the most common are the four-wheeled ATVs called quads, quad bikes, or quad cycles. The three-wheeled versions are more commmonly known as ATCs (all-terrain cycles), trikes, or three-wheelers. Six-wheeled and eight-wheeled versions are also available, although they have more specialized applications as they are commonly used in swamps and extremely moist conditions.
ATVs are available in different sizes, makes, and models. They usually require four-stroke engines in 250 to 700 cc. They can either come as two-wheel or four-wheel drive. |
