Car Batterie : What is it?
| A car battery is an electric, lead-acid battery that supplies a nominal 12-volt electric energy to the ignition system and starter motor of a car engine. It also provides power to the electrical system when the charging system is not functioning. It stabilizes or filters the power, and provide extra power for the lighting and other electrical accessories of the car when the combined load exceeds the capacity of the charging system. It usually lasts two to five years of recharging before it is replaced. How long it can last depends on its care and maintenance. |

Kinds of Car Batteries include the following: |
Low-maintenance car battery
- A low-maintenance car battery is a non-sealed battery with a lead-antimony/calcium (dual alloy or hybrid) plate formulation.
- It requires to be filled with water every so often to balance the sulfuric acid and water solution.
- It is ideal for hot climates because it has an external hydrometer that opens and tests the specific gravity.
Maintenance-free car battery
- A maintenance-free car battery is a sealed battery with a lead-calcium/calcium formulation.
- It requires less preventative maintenance.
- It has faster recharging, reduced terminal corrosion, greater overcharge resistance, and a longer shelf life.
- However, it is prone to deep discharge failure or dead battery because of its increased shedding of active plate material.

Rating: If you live in a cold climate, choose a car battery with a high Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) rating. If you live in a hot climate, on the other hand, look for one with a high Reserve Capacity (RC) rating. Your car battery should meet or exceed the rating recommended by your car’s manufacturer. Check with your local battery dealer for the appropriate ratings.
