| A hybrid vehicle (HV), also known as a hybrid-electric vehicle (HEV), uses two power sources – an internal combustion engine and an electric battery – to power its electric motor. It comes in different forms such as hybrid cars, hybrid trucks, and hybrid vans. A hybrid vehicle typically features a generator that produces the electric power, a fuel tank, a transmission engine that puts it in gear, and a battery. Because of its two distinct power sources, it is able to generate more power to keep it going for long. It has reduced emissions, making it environment-friendly.

Parallel hybrid vehicle

Series hybrid vehicle

- The generator powers the electric motor and charges the battery.
- It does not require a complex transmission.
- Some models have a separate electric motor for each wheel.
- It can be fitted with a flywheel or a cupercapacitor that improves motor’s efficiency and minimizes battery power loss.
- It is ideal for stop-and-go driving.
Combined hybrid vehicle
- A combined hybrid vehicle is designed with both parallel and series hybrid systems.
- It usually incorporates a power-split device that provides a power path from the engine to the wheels.
- The combination hybrid system contributes greatly to excellent overall vehicle efficiency.
