Great Scooter so far - Lawrence M. Ramstad, Apr 17, 2008

I bought this scooter at Sams for $299 and have had it about a week with no problems. Went together with no problems, charged it and took off on it. I weigh 225 and it has more than enough power. I use it to drive all over the RV park we in. Since I got mine several other people have bought them to ride around the park. I charge it after evey ride as the instructions state to prolong the battery life. Replacement batteries are expensive. The handlebars fold down and the seat stand comes off for easy storage when traveling.

Stealth 1000 is great - J. J. Slawson, Feb 28, 2008

I bought two Stealth 1000's about two years ago. I am 60 years old and didn't want a golf cart, which was my other option. The scooters are amazingly trouble free. I weigh over 225 lbs and the scooter still has a range of over 4 miles. My wife weighs considerably less and get a range of about 7 miles. Certainly preferable to the $150 Chinese made scooters we had before these. They lasted all of two months before I found that the replacement parts were nearly impossible to obtain. I like Schwinn's backing these, and so far, their reliability is excellent.

Schwinn Should've Left Well Enough Alone! - Debbie K. Ramsey, Feb 19, 2008

I've been riding a Schwinn S350 since 2004, mostly as a handicap mobile. I'm 50 something and have bad knees, so my little 350 has had quite a work out. I've gone through 3 battery packs, 4 tires and now need a chain. The motor was showing wear and was losing power, so I bought the Stealth to replace it. I was disappointed with all of the safety issues incorporated into the Stealth. It shuts itself off going down hills which has created dangerous situations at traffic lights. Gotta turn the power off, wait 30 seconds and turn it back on. Not good when traffic behind is coming and getting impatient. Climbing hills won't work either. The overheat sensor kicks in and shuts you down. The Direct Drive makes this unit a son of a gun to push home. It resists forward motion and its better just to phone home for a ride. It's extremely heavy to load, even in a side door van. I never ride this scooter any further than I would care to walk. So far it has left me stranded everytime I ride it. It seems to be very sensitive to all sorts of situations that it perceives as a safety issue...like going too fast downhill or climbing a steep hill. My S350 never stranded me or refused to climb hills. It free wheels so can be pushed easily. I hope Schwinn is listening and will go back to the no frills technology.

I expected more from a big name like Schwinn - Carl Sagerquist, Nov 25, 2007

I was excited to open and put together this scooter, and was preparing to use it at Burning Man 2007. At home in testing, I charged it, and got about 3 miles out of it, and was very disappointed! After looking at it quite closely, I found the brakes were dragging due to out-of-adjustment and out-of-round brake rotors. I spent quite some time working over the brakes and adjusting them until both wheels were spinning free. Then I test drove the scooter right after a full charge. I measured with my car, the distance around the big block at 2.3 miles. I drove the scooter FULL THROTTLE and made it around that big block 5 times. Add the .3 miles (X 2) from the house to the stop sign where I measured it, and back to the stop sign once, that's 12.4 miles on one charge full throttle. That meets advertised endurance. Good job Schwinn!!

In the workover of the wheels, I'm very critical of the quality of a big name like Schwinn. I expected more. I didn't expect the brake rotors to be out-of-round requiring me to hammer on them to make it straight and true. I didn't expect the spring tention on the disk brake untis to be not strong enough to return the disks to their fully-retracted positions. In my opinion, Schwinn, who's been around for a long long time, needs to spend some more time and effort in quality assurance. Maybe even on the drawing board. If that drives the price up, I would gladly pay more to have a better product. I chose Schwinn because of the name as I was looking for quality and a company that stands behind it's product. I've owned a few of their bicycles and they've always been excellent products. With the other customer reviews, though, it appears Schwinn has been slacking back on these important aspects of business. I shouldn't have had to make major repairs/adjustments like the ones I described right out of the box. Other people who do not have the knowledge and skills I have would probably just return the product for a refund.

As for the scooter's performance at Burning Man 2007? EXCELLENT!!! I rode with two others who were on bicycles. Their speed was much slower than the capability of the scooter, so I was forced to keep my speed down. The shock absorbers on the rough parts of the playa made the scooter's ride more comfortable then the bicycles. We also stopped at many places to take photos, listen to the live music, look over the huge art projects, drink at some of the free bars, and watch the pole dancers. I drove it twice a day and got 3 hours out of each battery charge!!! I'm sure I exceeded the advertised 12 miles on each charge.

I hope this review reaches Schwinn. They have a good product. They need to raise their quality standards.

Great concept, glitchs are intolerable! - Joe Dopp Painting, Nov 18, 2007

Stealth 1000 was a great comfortable ride . I loved it until i noticed it has no clutch and shuts itself down coasting and going down hills.
The battery expectancy was a sham , first ride 3 miles, never went more than 4 miles, leaving me stranded every time.
The front brake screw mount was stripped right out of the box.
Big hassle to return a 92 lb package. I want to be reimbersed for the 70 bucks,
The bugs make this ,could be dream toy, a lemon!
