Cribs are for babies zero months to about two years old. Usually made of wood and metal, they have side rails with slats no more than two inches apart (for safety reasons) to prevent babies from jumping or crawling out. Some cribs come with mattresses and caster swivel wheels.
The side rails of Adjustable Cribs cannot be lowered, but the crib bases can be adjusted in up to three different height levels. They can come with swivel wheels, mirrors, and thick mattresses.
Teething rails: Choose a crib with a smooth teething rail made of durable plastic if your child is in the teething stage. The rail prevents your child from biting off bits of wood and injuring their sensitive teeth and gums.
Wheels: Choose a crib with swivel or caster wheels for mobility. Make sure the wheels have locking mechanisms to prevent the crib from moving when you do not want it to.
Steel brackets: Look for a crib with castor brackets made of steel to prevent the legs from fracturing and splitting. Splitting can occur if your child frequently hops or jumps in the bridge, putting undue pressure on the crib’s legs.
Bottom drawers: Choose a crib with a built-in bottom drawer that slides out easily for storing baby things like books, clothes, comforters, and toys. The drawer should be at least three inches deep.
