Kinds of Nursing Bras include the following:

Underwire nursing bras

Underwire nursing bras have thin wires running along the bottom band of each breast cup to provide maximum support. However, the underwire can be uncomfortable for some women. These bras should not be worn while sleeping as they put pressure on the breasts that can lead to mastitis and blocked ducts.

Underwire-free nursing bras

Underwire-free nursing bras – because they do not have support wires – may not be able to support large breasts effectively. They are very comfortable, though, making them ideal for sleeping.

Flap nursing bras

Flap nursing bras are made with detachable breast flaps for easy breastfeeding. They can have adjustable cups to accommodate changing breast sizes. Flap bras allow discreet nursing in public. Their cup clasps can be undone near the bra band or between the two cups.

Pull down nursing bras

Pull down nursing bras are pulled down on one side to provide feeding access to the baby. They are usually made of cotton and are soft enough to sleep in. Most pull down bras do not have underwire or flaps, making them relatively inexpensive. However, they may not be able to support large breasts effectively.

Choosing Nursing Bras (Buying Tips)

Size: Consider buying a nursing bra a month or a few weeks before you give birth. Choose bras one or two sizes larger than the maternity bra you are currently using. Your breasts will get larger as milk production starts, so purchase more nursing bras after the second or third week of giving birth.

Support: Choose a nursing bra with no underwire if you have small breasts. If you have large breasts, on the other hand, choose one with extra support around the ribcage and underneath each cup.
