Rating : Good but you should still be vigilant. - M. Ryder, Apr 27, 2008
This is great at keeping tots from jumping IN to the toilet and getting in to trouble or worse.
However, if your lid is thin and "stylish" rather than thick and stury as the one that is pictured, it may be flexible enough to bend. In our case, even with everything tightened as much as possible, it still leaves a gap big enough for little hands to sneak things into the toilet...
Overall, we are pleased with the purchase, and recommend it.
Rating : Great toilet lock - tanso, Mar 21, 2008
I have had two of these installed for a couple weeks, and they really are great. Even though it's a two-part system, my daughter cannot lift the lever off because there is a little screw to attach the two pieces together. There is no way my daughter can open the lid with the lever in place. I would, however, make sure that everyone in the house knows that it is essential to replace the lever EVERY TIME, otherwise there is the potential for drowning - plus I would check it regularly if there are guests in the house just to be sure. The lever seems to replace itself automatically when you shut the lid, but I'm not certain that it's fool-proof, and not everyone is used to closing the lid each time.
There is a little room where a child could get her fingers caught between the seat and lid if he or she tries to lift the lid, but pinched fingers or small objects slid in are the worst that can happen, I think. Since my main concern is drowning, I'm not too worried - it won't take my daughter too many tries to figure out that she shouldn't stick her fingers in.
As to other reviewers' concerns about the disparity in the height of the seat in front and back: I have not found it an issue as far as sitting down, as I can't fell that there is a slant. I had not considered the possibility of the seat breaking, however, but my dad suggested getting some adhesive rubber pads of the right height from a hardware store to attach to the bottom of the seat to even it out. I haven't gotten this far yet, but there must be some solution.
All in all, this is exactly what we needed, and is far better than a piece of junk I purchased a Walmart that had suction cups to attach to the tank (it would fall off after 5 minutes on the tank - very dangerous!).
Rating : Yikes! - Peter Wilson, Jan 25, 2008
Wow...really hate this product. I own a Kohler deep, long (whatever it's called) toilet. Not an uncommon toilet. I needed to buy new bolts for the lid to attach this item. As others have noted, the seat is now at an unsupported angle. Also, it seems like my toddler will hurt himself trying to get it open. The lid can still be opened a good 5 inches. I give it two stars, instead of one, because it may work better on smaller toilets than mine---but I doubt it. This is the second type of toilet lock we have tried with no luck.
Rating : We loved these - Dedicated Parent, Dec 17, 2007
We used these for years, they work great. You can also disable them so you don't have it on all the time. I also liked that these are easy to clean I didn't want any parts stuck in the bowl. We had no problems we even had this along with a flip down baby seat at the same time. It sure made things easier to be all set up. I may reinstall ours since we now have a toddler visiting regularly.
Rating : This Lock Is Worth Its Weight In Gold! - Red Emma, Nov 24, 2007
After trying ever other toilet lock out there thank goodness I finally found this one! My toddler loves to flush anything down the toilet and this is the only one he has not been able to figure out how to open. It's easy to install and easy to use for adults. It's a little pricier than the other locks but it is the last one you will have to buy and it actually works so it's worth it.
