Bathing a newborn is always a frightening prospect for an unseasoned parent. However, this bather’s design is well thought out to ease some of the anxiety about giving those first baths. First, the sling-style seat is made of a soft, nylon mesh that conforms to baby’s body and reduces the chances of baby slipping down below the tub’s water level--a potential hazard that is more likely with a smooth plastic bath seat. While there is a belt on this bather, it is intended to secure the cover to the wire frame, not to hold baby in the seat. For added comfort, the seat has cushioned edges so baby won’t get poked by the bather’s wire frame during bath time and a removable terrycloth and nylon padded headrest provides additional support for newborns. The backrest offers two positions—reclining for newborns with little head support and a more upright angle for when baby’s neck muscles get stronger. This bath seat can be used for newborn babies to until they begin sitting unassisted. It offers a larger frame and supportive base than most to accommodate bigger babies and non-skid feet helps prevent the seat from skidding in the tub. The seat neatly folds for storage or travel and has a machine-washable and mildew-resistant cover for convenience. --Cristina Vaamonde

Good seat, but has some flaws - cnwh, Mar 19, 2008

I've been using this to bathe my son since his cord fell off. I like that this seat has two positions, so that I could recline him while he was very small. He's now 7 months and still using it. I use this in the tub, and bathe him while keeping him warm under a continuously running hand-held shower head on him (I just don't want him sitting in dirty bathwater). Thusly I don't have any experience with this seat floating or otherwise being dangerous to a baby. There are two issues, one minor and one significant, which are getting on my nerves and I've started shopping for another seat.
Minor issue: There are only seating positions: pretty reclined, and then slightly reclined. At 7 months, he really wants to sit up, and this seat doesn't make that easy.
Significant issue: I admit, I never read the documentation that comes with stuff i buy. That said, while there may be literature on this that came in the box, I have found that this seat cover needs to be removed from the frame 2-3 times per month and soaked in Oxyclean to remove a mildew smell from the fabric. A few times I could actually find specks of mold on it. It's nasty, and it can ultimately lead to allergies. All of this despite it's claim of being mildew resistant.

Having to soak it regularly is annoying, but it's never been worse than once a week, so I live with it. This seat did work really well for my purposes - I don't like him sitting in bath water anyway. But now that he really wants to sit up in the bath, I'm looking for a new one. I would recommend it, but I am disappointed it didn't last us a little longer.

Very useful and don't listen to the negative comments. - LaShawn Wright, Mar 10, 2008

With my first son I used a reg baby bath tub. He fit in it for about 6 weeks. Then, with him in it, it only held about a cup of water. After that he went to the big tub with a spongy cushion. He didnt like laying in the water so finally, I put him in a bath tub ring which worked okay.

I said there has to be something better for my second son so I got this bath seat and loved it. I used it until he was able to sit by himself (about 6 months). He loved it too. I wanted to address some of the negative comments I have seen in other reviews. First, the bolt on the underside does rust but it is sturdier than plastic and really doesnt affect the performance of the seat (Your water has rust in it from the pipes anyway). Second, as long as you set it up securely, it will not fall down or fold up. Thirdly, I never had to put more than a few inches of water in my tub to have enough water to cover the babies legs and bottom. Also my baby never slid or slumped out of this seat.

I am expecting my third child and will definitely use this bath seat. In my opinion it is the best alternative on the market for bathing an infant.

I have loved it since day one! - Kendra Diaz, Feb 03, 2008

I bought this for my son before he was born, and now almost 5 months later we still use it everyday. It's very soft mesh so he is comfy in it, and I love that it folds up for storage. Also you can change the positions with it, he can be sitting up or laying down, which is a big plus!

For bigger babies - M. Tocco, Jan 13, 2008

This is a great size for the larger child. My son would have fit in the smaller size but not for very long. This size is much more roomy.
The seat is easy to use and folds up for storage. My child hated bathtime with the baby tub. Now with this seat he doesnt love bathtime but at least he isn't screaming through it anymore. He is much more supported and just looks at me curiously as i'm bathing him.

Not very safe - Rae, Dec 11, 2007

Sure, this product is more attractive than the plain blue tub I had used for my son, but I'm about to go buy another blue baby tub tomorrow to replace this one. My daughter slips around A LOT on this, there needs to be a safety strap similar to the ones on the bouncy chairs for me to feel good about this product. The head support is fine, but honestly not that helpful since I always have both my hands on my baby anyways. On top of it all, this thing has a tendency to collapse while the baby is in it, so much so today that we just took her out of it and sat in the tub with her. She's only 12 pounds! I couldn't imagine using it in the upright position, since there is no safety harness to really keep the baby from tipping over and getting a serious bump on the head. We always have our hand on her while bathing, but this product turned bathtime into worry-time.
Not only that, but even after washing it and thoroughly drying it after each use, it is starting to smell like mildew.
