A messenger bag, also called as a courier bag, is made with a long shoulder strap designed to be worn over the shoulder and across the body. It has a long and bulky pouch closed with a zipper or a flap. The modern messenger bag comes from the utility lineman’s bag design of the 1950’s. This type of bag was designed to allow linemen carry to their tools while climbing utility poles. In history, the messenger bag was used by postal workers, bicycle couriers, and in ancient times, pony express riders and messengers on foot.
Types of Messenger Bags
Kinds of Messenger Bags include the following:
Zipper messenger bags
A zippered messenger bag is made with a zipper closure system.
It allows easy access to the contents because the zipper can be opened with one hand and the contents can be retrieved with the same hand.
Flap messenger bags
This type of messenger bag is made with a flap closure system.
It is less secure than a zipper messenger bag.
The smaller contents can easily spill out in case it falls.
However, it can accommodate longer items that can be carried while sticking out of the sides.
Choosing Messenger Bags (Buying tips)
Reflective patch: Look for a messenger bag with a reflective patch or surface for visibility when commuting, skateboarding, or riding a bicycle.
Pockets: Look for a messenger bag with internal pockets for storing important items and external pockets for carrying items that need to be retrieved instantly.
