CD-Recordable (CD-R) media are optical discs that can be recorded with data. They consist of a recordable film sandwiched between two layers of polycarbonate plastic. They are 1.2 millimeters thick and 80 to 120 millimeters across. They can store from 29 MB to 800 MB of data, although the most commonly used type is the 700-MB disc.
49 MB CD-R discs can record six minutes' worth of multimedia files. They are ideal for burning pure data files and short multimedia material, such as commercials or video advertisements.
210 MB CD-R discs
210 MB CD-R discs can record 24 minutes' worth of multimedia files. The mini CD-Rs are variants of the 210 MB CD-R discs.
700 MB CD-R discs
700 MB CD-R discs can record 80 minutes' worth of multimedia files. They are commonly used for saving data files for backup or presentation, compiling mp3 files, and creating movies.
800 MB CD-R discs
800 MB CD-R discs can record 90 minutes' worth of multimedia files. They are generally the most expensive type of CD-R disc.
Quality: To ensure quality and performance, buy CD-R discs only from well-known manufacturers. Cheap CD-R media are sold in bulk because they are mass produced, which can sacrifice their quality and performance.
