CD-Rewritable (CD-RW) media are optical discs that can be recorded and re-recorded with data several times. Like CD-Recordable (CD-R) media, they have one recording side and a polycarbonate exterior, but they allow data to be deleted or overwritten. However, they have lower compatibility and cannot be played on stand-alone CD players.
Conventional CD-RW discs have a writing speed of 1X to 4X. Recording on these discs is slow but accurate. They are generally inexpensive and readily available. They can be rewritten with data up to 1,000 times.
High-speed CD-RW discs
High-speed CD-RW discs have a writing speed of 4X to 10X. Recording on these discs is faster than in conventional CD-RW media. They are compatible with standard CD drives. They are available in different storage capacities from 600 MB to as much as 1.2 GB.
Ultra-speed CD-RW discs
Ultra-speed CD-RW discs have a writing speed of 16X to 24X. They are generally compatible with CD drives with high specifications and writing speeds. Recording on these discs is fast but sometimes inaccurate. They are the most expensive CD-RW media.
Compatibility: Choose CD-RW discs compatible with your CD writer especially in terms of speed. If your CD writer supports low-speed burning, get 1X to 4X CD-RW discs only.
