A computer case houses all the internal components of a computer and protects them from dust, dirt, water, and all forms of damage. It is usually made of aluminum, steel, or plastic, and usually has a series of vents to direct warm air out of the case. A typical computer case provides space for one or more drive bays, a motherboard, expansion rack, and power supply unit (PSU).
Types of Computer Cases
Kinds of Computer Cases include the following:
Desktop computer case
A desktop computer case sits horizontally on a desk. It usually has a simple design and is difficult to upgrade. Some models are sturdy enough to support the monitor on top.
Mini tower computer case
A mini tower computer case stands vertically on a desk or on the floor. It can contain several internal drive bays. It has a sleeker design and occupies less desktop space.
Full tower computer case
A full tower computer case is designed to hold several drive bays. It allows the addition of extra drives by simply adding or occupying the bays. It is usually the most expensive type of computer case.
Choosing Computer Cases (Buying tips)
Power supply unit (PSU): Choose a computer case with a built-in power supply unit so you do not have to buy a separate unit. Make sure it matches the voltage level of your mains power.
Indicator lights: Choose a computer case with status lights for monitoring running speed, data rates, and other essential functions.
