DVD Random Access Memory (DVD-RAM) media are optical discs that can be written and rewritten on several times. They have a large storage capacity ranging from 2.6 to as much as 9.4 GB, depending on the type and model. Although they can be played in some DVD-ROM drives and DVD players, they can only be burned using DVD RAM drives. They are also cartridge-based, which makes them incompatible with many DVD drives.
These DVD RAM discs are bare and single-sided. They can be only read by fourth generation DVD players and DVD-ROM drives. They are less expensive than DVD RAM discs with cartridges.
DVD RAM discs with cartridge
These DVD RAM discs can be single- or double-sided. They are usually enclosed in protective cases. They are classified into Type 1 and Type 2 discs. Type 1 discs are double-sided and enclosed in permanently sealed cartridges. They require manual flipping to be able to use both sides. Type 2 discs are single-sided and enclosed in removable caddies or cartridges.
Storage capacity: Choose a DVD RAM disc with a storage capacity of at least 4.7 GB for storing movies, songs, images, and data files. If you want greater storage capacity, choose a double-sided disc with a 9.4 GB storage capacity, which allows you to record up to five hours of video and more than 150 hours of audio.
