File transfer software is used to send files from one computer to another. It is usually web-based, using the Internet as the main channel of communication. It works like email software but with a larger or nonexistent file size limit. File transfer software also supports multithread downloading.
Kinds of File Transfer Software include the following:
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) software
FTP software allows one computer user to transfer files and execute file commands to other users. It can also work with networks that support TCP/IP protocol including the Internet and the intranet. It involves two computers—the server and the client.
Network File System (NFS) software
NFS software allows the client to access files in from a central computer in a network. It uses stateless file-sharing, which means that the server can reboot without cutting off transfer connections with other computers.
File compression: Choose file transfer software that allows you to compress large files to speed up transfer.
Security: Make sure your file transfer software has password protection and encryption features to prevent unauthorized access or interception of files during transfer. This is especially important when transferring important documents such as bank statements and medical records.
