Optical Character Recognition (OCR) converts text in images to document format for editing. It works with external source devices such as scanners, copiers, and fax machines. It can convert text to commonly used formats for word processors, HTML, and PDF files. It is particularly useful in quoting article excerpts in reports, editing a publication without typing the entire material, or making copies of document files from on paper.
Trainable OCR software has an internal font pattern database. It copies and saves text documents by matching the scanned patterns to a specified font pattern model. If some characters are not recognized, it either leaves them in an image format or asks the user to manually assign characters.
Omnifront OCR software
Omnifront OCR software copies and saves text documents by breaking down the characters into lines and curves. It then compares the features into its internal database of fonts and characters.
Automatic page decomposition: Choose OCR software with an automatic page decomposition feature that interprets irregular layouts and texts around images, inside tables, in headers, and in footers. It also translates columns of texts into pages of continuous texts.
