Peripheral component interconnect (PCI) video cards manage image and video displays on computer monitors. They convert incoming video signals into electronic signals to be displayed on the screen. They plug into the computer’s PCI rack, along with other expansion cards such as sound cards and network cards. One edge of the card features one or more ports for connecting to monitors or input devices, such as video cameras.
Data width: Data width determines the color spectrum that the card can display. Choose a PCI video card with a 256- to 512-bit data width for heavy graphics applications, such as gaming and design work. For general office work, 64- to 128-bit should do.
Installed memory: Choose a PCI video card with a large installed memory for smoother 3d and video displays. Generally, 64 MB and below are considered low-end, while 128 MB and up are high-end.
