Photo printers create high-resolution prints of digital photos. They usually have additional cartridges containing specialty photo inks. These cartridges have several nozzles that emit droplets as fine as one picoliter. They have adjustable paper trays for feeding standard photo sizes, from 4 x 6 to over 11 x 17 inches. They are usually designed to print on matte or glossy photo paper, but most models accept regular paper as well.
Resolution: Choose a photo printer with a resolution of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi). Look for higher resolutions if you print photos larger than 8 x 10. Some high-end models have as much as 1400 dpi, but the difference is hardly noticeable over 1000 dpi.
Paper size: Choose a photo printer that supports a wide range of paper sizes. Look for one with alignment guides to prevent page bleeding in smaller photos. If the printer comes with software, make sure it includes resolution selections for various sizes.
