- Designed for small and home offices
- Simple network monitoring
- Connect up to 4 users on each hub
- Self-ventilating, silent operation
A highly cost-effective, entry-level unmanaged hub, the OfficeConnect Hub TP4 provides four 10 Mbps twisted-pair connections and represents the most economical OfficeConnect product for home or small businesses. The TP4 is operational in minutes. Its four RJ-45 10BASE-T connections have built-in diagnostic LEDs that indicate packet receipt, packet collision, and port status. The Alert LED indicates excessive network use or a partitioned 10BASE-T port. The TP4's CoolCurve self-ventilating design eliminates the need for cooling fans, increasing reliability by eliminating a potential point of failure. The external power supply simplifies maintenance in the event of a power supply failure and its compact design saves space and ensures silent operation. Another important design feature are the 'stacking clips' that allow convenient expandability and secure stacking of up to four OfficeConnect units. Plus, an MDI/MDIX switch allows connection to a workstation or another Ethernet hub to the fourth twisted-pair port, supporting the connection of up to four hubs in series. The 3Com 3C16704A OfficeConnect Hub 4-Port is a basic hub that is ideal for small and home offices because it supports up to four users and includes simple LEDs for network monitoring. Features include Plug and Play installation and front-panel diagnostic LEDs. Its space-saving CoolCurve self-ventilating design provides silent operation and increases reliability by eliminating a potential point of failure. This model also comes equipped with four RJ-45 10BASE-T connections and an MDI/MDIX switch to allow connection of either a workstation or another Ethernet hub to the fourth twisted-pair port. The 3Com 3C16704A OfficeConnect Ethernet Hub 4-Port is fully compatible with Novell NetWare, Microsoft Windows 95, and other leading network operating systems. 3Com provides free installation assistance and a lifetime limited warranty. Rating : Good hub, average value - J. Choquette, May 12, 2003
I have successfully used this hub in conjection with a SpeedStream 5660 router to provide an ADSL connection to three computers. But keep in mind that the Netgear EN-104TP 10-Base T-Ethernet Hub 4-Port will get the job done for 26$.
Rating : Near-Effortless Network - , Aug 29, 2000
Quick and easy setup. I use this hub with my Windows 2000 Server and it works just as it should. Simple installation and startup. You can easily do this yourself. And I haven't had any trouble with this hub. But I'm outgrowing it; perhaps the 8-port hub would have been better for me. Leave room for growth! I never thought I'd have more than 4 clients.
