Junk - Craig R. Vincent, Jun 16, 2008

This software is junk, It will backup just fine. Good luck with restore. Tech support is worse. Be forewarned test your backup before you buy. I have a boxed version which will now be a companion with my garbage can till it's dumped.

good replacement - Mickey G. Purifoy, Jun 12, 2008

Was having problems with and older version after an update to Windows SP3
11 fixed the problem. Found out afterwards that there was an update to my older version of true image. Service was good from Amazon.Acronis True Image Home V11.0

What Norton Ghost used to be but better - IT guy, Jun 11, 2008

Acronis Home 11 is what Ghost used to be. Makes disk images? YES. Every conceivable option. Emergency Recovery? YES. Backups and restores? YES. Vista Compatible? YES. Flawless. My best software purchase last 12 months.

No provision for password change - Henry W. Ackerman Jr., Jun 09, 2008

Don't password protect. I could not get the program to recognize a valid password and there is no way around it unless you uninstall and start over. I am reasonably intelligent, but the documentation is poorly written. I am not recommending this product at this time.

Loser #30 - the webmaster, Jun 07, 2008

There is a reason that there are 29 (now 30) 1 star reviews.
The main reason is that it is impossible to give zero stars.
I'm not joking. I am idiot #30 that thought this software would be a great tool. Some of the people that gave a one star review were actually able to get a backup to complete. Congratulations. I wonder what the secret is. I simply boot with the CD and selected backup. Yes, in theory, the software is awesome, but in practice, it is a miserable failure.
So far, I have tried to make drive image backups of two different computers.
One running XP SP2 and another that is a brand new Vista Home Premium SP1.

I tried backing up to DVD on both and both failed for different reasons.
The XP backup to DVD kept thinking that more DVDs had been written to than actually had been. On the Vista machine, after the 3rd disk it asked me to insert the last backup media disk (which was already in the drive). No matter what DVD I put in there (include another blank), I kept getting a "Invalid Operation" message. I'm telling you that this software is garbage waiting to be taken out to the curb.

The Vista PC I also tried backing up to an external USB 2.0 drive.
The USB drive backup looked promising, but stopped backing up when it got down to "2 minutes to go". I waited about 40 minutes for those final two minutes before I tried to click the "Cancel" button. There was nothing going on... not on the PC or the USB drive.

I guess I should have sprung for the "Ghost". Perhaps we should all get together and start a class action suit against Acronis and at least recover our $35. We'll never get back the time we wasted trying to get this software to function as Acronis advertises.

6/13/2008 UPDATE
After removing some very large video files from my PC and performing a defrag, I was able to complete backups to both external USB drive AND to DVD+RW.

I just ordered a 500GB SATA drive and will test the restore capabilities when the drive arrives next week. Stay tuned.
