The product was bought to maintain an inventory of items. It was excellent. Used one of the templates and customized to my needs. I was able to import pictures of items from Iphoto seemlessly. the product has many other uses that I have not ventured to explore yet.

My purchase arrived as ordered and promptly. This is an update for me. I gave it 4 stars based on Bento 1 and might update it to 5 stars after more time in use. The price was also right.

After having searched quite extensively for a decent, low-priced database for my Mac, I decided to give Bento a try.
When it arrived I immediately installed it. Installation was a snap, no problems. I was able to get it up & running & using it in no time at all.
I was quickly able to set up a database for one of my collections using one of Bento's many templates.
It allows for data to be set up as a table & as a form, & you can switch between the two easily. You can insert photos & set up these templates any way you want. Bento also has special templates available for download from the Filemaker website.
I was mostly looking for a simple database that allowed me to keep track of my collections & inventory & to be able to print out my information without jumping through too many hoops. This software does what I was looking for.
I'm sure someone will find shortcomings with this database & they may need a more advanced database program to fulfill their needs but for the average user this program should work for them.
I have not upgraded my Mac to Snow Leopard yet, but the current version of Bento (2.0v5) is supposed to work with the new system upgrade.

I hesitated in purchasing Bento since I'd been an avid user of FilemakerPro at my work site. I wondered if Bento would be sufficient to meet my home needs. The price was the key factor in purchasing Bento. I've been using it for months now and found it's easy to use and flexible. It doesn't have the ability to create the forms like FilemakerPro; however, the Bento Templates meet my needs and the template exchange program provides me with more ways to use this simple inexpensive and yet satisfying database.

Bento has an attractive interface and it is very easy to use. It integrates well with Calendar, Contacts, and many other programs (Excel etc). For quickly doing very simple and casual database functions its great even if you've never used databases before.

Unfortunately its extremely slow as database sizes grow (its great for hundreds or even thousands of records but starting in the tens of thousands of records it gets unbearably slow). Its also fairly buggy, frequently hanging, crashing and loosing data. To me that makes it unsuitable for any serious work.

Hopefully Bento 3 will resolve the performance and reliability issues with Bento 2.
