Rating : Great quick labeler but doesn't come with an AC plug - Scott, Nov 02, 2008
I use this all the time for quick labeling rather than sloppy sharpie markers. I have all the colored ribbons. The silver is a bit light but the best are the blue and black. The only draw back is that you need like 8 AA batteries and they die out fast. The AC plug is an additional purchase of 30 bucks.
Rating : Extremely Good Item! - Sean Doherty Jr., Apr 16, 2008
I am a worker and i often put presentations on CDs. I used to write the titles of the the CDs with a sharpy. Then i bought this and it was easy to read the titles and i have never gotten confused since. Thanks Casio!
Rating : Good product for what it does - W. Teas, Mar 15, 2008
I have had my Casio Disc Title Printer for over two years and am very happy with it. As the owner of a professional recording studio I was looking for something to quickly label common storage or information CDs. I have two of the Epson Ink Jet disc printers and two Lightscribe label burners. All do a good job, but the Casio is handy for quick, professional, no-frills labeling.
IMPORTANT: You will probably not be able to buy discs for it locally, but Amazon has a 100-disc stack that is affordable and works perfectly. I have used them for many purposes and never found them wanting. You need: MAXELL CD-RBS Thermal Transfer Printable CD's, item #648740. (And be sure to print the label BEFORE burning your disc.)
The ribbons are somewhat fragile, but if you handle them properly you should not have any trouble. FIRST, don't change them more than necessary. I usually use black, but will change to red if necessary. SECOND, carefully remove the ribbon cartridge so you don't snag the ribbon when you take it out. It isn't hard; just watch what you are doing. THIRD, before installing a ribbon cartridge, turn the spool hub backward just enough to take up any slack, and carefully insert it in the cartridge slot -- again being careful not to snag the ribbon. I have never had any trouble when I paid attention to what I was doing.
You can use any true type fonts you have, and you can import bitmap images. Use a little creativity and you can make a professional-looking disc with type and graphics quickly and easily. Be aware that you can only print in two areas of the disc, a block above and/or a block below the hub. Keep it simple and this limitation will rarely be a problem.
While the unit does have a keyboard, using the computer interface is a much better choice. It is here, however, that the printer misses its potential. The Disc Printing program is perfectly adequate, especially in "free form" mode, but the tape-printing program is primitive. If you want to print tape labels, Brother has the best program by far(imho).
CONCLUSION: If you want to print CD labels first and are only secondarily interested in printing label tapes (or your needs are basic in that regards), this machine does a fine job IF you buy the right discs and handle the cartridges right. Among all of the disc labeling options at my disposal (ink jet, lightscribe, paper, felt-tip pen, DYMO thermal) my Casio is the one I turn to the most often.
Rating : Eval of the CW-K85 and Casio - John W. Goodman, Jun 10, 2007
Had the item for two weeks plus. Some unnecessary problems with it's installation. I use it only as stand alone now. And may trade it off.
Attempts to order ink cartridges was a web-site-nightmare. (New efforts by e-active businesses to increase security and expel non-valid persons has added requests for additional information about the card distributor. The information requested is not valid for some cards. Thus, you are suspected of being an imposter or thief.) The metriculation on the Casio site was a nightmare. Eventually, gave up and cancelled the information that had been successfully entered. Sent a note to Casio. Got an automatic answer a week later.
It will fail to label on many many different types of CD/DVD's. The advertisement does not warn of that problem. So you may have a large number of disks that can't be used with the Casio. (If you write me, I'll scan the product manual with suggestions of which types of disks don't work will.)
When all the stars in the heavens are in proper arrangement, it does a fine and relatively versatile job in black and white.
