Rating : Good prouct - light weight construction - M. Gregory, Oct 15, 2009
I have been using the product for a couple of months and so far its working as expected. I have a 19inch flat panel dell monitor connected running 1280x1024 and the picture is reasonably good. Not as good as my main TV but about what I expected. The casing for the unit is not as sturdy as I would have hoped but its placed on a shelf out of the way so it should be ok as long as it's protected. The biggest issue I had was that I originally had low watt micro speakers connected that came from an external CD player and the output of the unit was very weak. I replaced them with a stronger pair with a bit stronger amplifier and they are working fine.
Rating : Geniatech TV tuner review - JCJ, Jul 11, 2009
The tuner arrived quickly and securely wrapped. It was easy to set up and product produced an excellent picture thru cable tv to an older Dell computer monitor, but would not produce adequate sound with the auxillary speakers, could barely hear it. The speakers worked very well with an older tv, and portable radio, so it appeared that the tuner was defective. I notified the vendor. Vendor said to return and a new working item would be sent to me. I returned the product with a tracking #, but considerable time went by and I did not receive the replacement or communication. I contacted the vendor and vendor said ASAP. I told the vendor that it takes about 5 minutes to set up and test the returned unit and he was failing to communicate with me other than his ASAP message, so I asked for a refund, of which he complied, and I told him that it was disappointing that I could not acquire a product that was totally functional. I was not reimbursed for the postage to return the defective product. So live and learn.
Rating : Pleasantly surprised - Petee, May 26, 2009
Pleasantly surprised at the quality of picture. I wanted a replacement TV for a bedroom, but LCD TV's were $399 and up. I had an old NEC 20" LCD Monitor collecting dust and happened across this product. After minutes of receiving the unit I was up and running. For my set up (having a monitor without integrated speakers) it was a bit Kludge to integrate external computer speakers , 3 power cords, hide cables etc and make it look decent, but for $50 , you cant beat it. It gets 4 stars because channel numbers do not always advance or match what is tuned.
Rating : A great product, but one very bad flaw - Moo, May 05, 2009
I bought one of these about 5 months ago and hooked it up to a 19" LCD monitor. It was taking the place of a broken 32" HDTV, but we never watched anything in HD on it anyway. The picture was much smaller but this box was $50 and the monitor was free, so you can't beat a 19" TV for $50! When I end up buying a new HDTV, this setup will go into the bedroom to replace the 15-or-so-inch TV in there. I currently have satellite TV, so analog vs digital tuning is a non-issue
However, in the past few weeks, it has started acting as though buttons were being pressed on the remote even though no one was near it. It will display (and possibly change slightly) the contrast or brightness settings, and sometimes attempt to change the resolution. The resolution it tries to change to is not supported by my monitor and nothing happens except the monitor displays a distracting message in the middle of the screen stating that the resolution is not supported.
The worst issue of all, though, is that sometimes it acts as though the A/V (input) button was pressed, switching away from the TV show I'm watching to my computer, or worse, to the Antenna input which is often very loud static, abd is very disruptive.
I emailed the seller about a replacement and I hope they will be accomodating.
Rating : Excellent product for the $$ - KJHawkeye1, Apr 28, 2009
We were looking for a TV tuner for our widescreen computer monitor and this little box did the trick. Not only were we able to get all of the channels our plasma had, but we could also hook up the PS2 and play game through it as well.
This is a great buy for the price.
