Purchased this for my 12 year old son. Very easy for him to install on his own. He loves the software and uses it with very little difficulty.

I just got this program, so I haven't fully explored it yet. I have Windows XP and had a lot of difficulty installing the program. It would not install from the installation splash screen and so I had to contact them for help. Once I got it installed, it seems pretty nice. It is a little confusing as I am not use to their interface, and some features that I use frequently on other art programs you have to search for. Other than that, it seems pretty nice for the price and seems to have a lot of cool features.

This is for Manga Studio Debut 4 for MAC

I've used Photoshop and Corel before. Corel has stability issues, but the shortcut keys have never failed me either. This is something that shouldn't have happened at version 1--and at version 4, I have to wonder about the kind of thought that went into this program.

There is also NO magnifying glass in sight. Truly annoying, especially when paired with a number of non-functioning shortcut keys--it makes you mouse to the tool bar and scroll down. This greatly impairs your work flow. Furthermore, there are NO patch releases on smithmicro site. That means these flaws will stay flawed.

Then there is the non-intuitive user interface. It requires a steep learning curve and is so different from any and all kind of other software. I've tried Sketchbook, OpenCanvas, Paintshop Pro... you name it, I've tried at least once.

But then again, at fraction of the cost of Photoshop and Sketchbook, Debut may be worth playing around with and having fun with.

Manga Studio Debut 4 is full of ways to make professional comics just like the box says.

BUT! you would think that software with a simple premise like this would be a little more user friendly and streamlined. Having to make new "layer types" for sketches and panels is a little daunting, in my opinion. I guess I was hoping for "Comic Life" with drawing tools and panel cutters, and simple layers. Again this is a good product, just research the interface thoroughly before you buy it. If you like your software simple and straight forward this is not it. If you don't mind learning to be real technical and artistic at the same time, then you might like it.

If you want a toy, then get this version, but if you'd like a really great tool for drawing manga, then get the EX version. The EX version may be much more expensive, but if you're a serious artist, then you might as well throw away your money if you're going to buy this version. To give you an example of how many features that this version is missing: it doesn't have vectoring, an eyedropper tool, or even a gradiation tool! Check the website's manual for a list of features it doesn't have.

Skip this version, buy the EX version.
