Product Description

The BX5a refines M-Audio's highly acclaimed BX5 near-field reference monitors, renowned for packing a lot of punch for their size. M-Audio's new 5" low-frequency driver cones are crafted from Kevlar, an extremely resilient material typically found in much more expensive monitors. Curved cone design coupled with high-temperature voice coils and damped rubber surrounds deliver incredible fidelity and durability. The 1" high-frequency drivers' magnetically shielded natural silk domes produce crisp top end while still being gentle on the ears. Integral cabinet and electronic engineering work together to deliver improved bass response. 70-watt bi-amped power and expertly tuned crossovers round out an incredible sounding pair of reference monitors with a footprint small enough to fit just about anywhere.

I'VE HAD THESE SPEAKERS FOR ALMOST TWO MONTHS SO FAR AND I CAN'T LISTEN TO MUSIC ANYWHERE ELSE THE SAME, EVERYTHING IS CRISP AND FOR THE SIZE HAS SOME "KNOCK" TO THEM. I CAN SAY I'M IN LOVE WITH THESE SPEAKERS. I RECORD AND MIX MY OWN MUSIC AND THESE SPEAKERS GIVES A NICE LEVEL WHERE YOU CAN PRETTY MUCH MIX A TRACK UP PERFECT ON THE FIRST GO ROUND. GREAT SPEAKERS, HIGHLY SUGGEST TO BUY!!!!!!

when it came time to order speakers for my video editing setup, the BX5a speakers were a no-brainer. I've used similar (older) models on many professional editing setups in the past and loved them for the sound and reliability. I've been told that for my type of work they are an industry standard, and was happy that they are very affordable. I believe you can connect them directly into your Mac. But I use them with a Xenyx 802 4-track mixer and my Mac Pro - it all connects with two cables: a 1/4" from mixer to mini stereo connector that goes into my Mac Pro, and a 1/4" to 1/4" that connects the mixer to each L and R speaker. I opted to go this route with a mixer so that later I can grow into a Kona card and Kona breakout box which would also go through my mixer. Because my editing setup is my own home computer, I also love listening to music through my BX5a speakers! I'm happy with the sound.

Theses speakers are a very good value for the money. I was looking for some small but yet enough powerful monitor speakers for my DJing at home, and I'm very pleased with the sound quality. You might not expect a heavy bass with them but the sound is very precise and good for the money.
I have listened to some other ones at some stores but i don't think you will get something better at that price. An additional subwoofer could be added if you are really looking for a lower range, but it could be more interesting to just invest to larger speakers indeed.
Don't forget to get the adequate cables when buying them so you don't get frustrated at home when you get them without being able to connect them...

I got them in last week. I was lucky enough to pick them up for $89.00 from Amazon through Musicians Friend. Have had them for a week...sound great...working on some recording projects with friends getting really good bass response from our acoustic sessions and really clear mids and highs.

ILL KEEP IT SHORT AND SWEET. THESE THINGS SOUND AWESOME!! I HAVN'T HERD OTHER STUDIO MONITORS BUT COMPARED TO ANY OTHER SPEAKERS I HAVE HERD THESE BX5A'S BLOW THEM AWAY.
