Another great nVidia card from MSI - Ahmed J. Aldoseri, Aug 23, 2008

I waited for a long time until Amazon offered the GTX 260 OC that MSI made, and the waiting was worth it. I was originally going for the 280, but you can pretty much buy 2 of the 260's for the price of a single 280, and the price to performance ratio was not in favour of the 280's.

General notes: as any other user would report, this card is huge! Make sure you get a motherboard that allows you to install this card and still be able to use the PCI slots adjacent to it. I used the MSI P7N Diamond, and it accommodated it just fine.

It also requires a lot of power, forget installing this card on any PSU with less than 600 Watts, or you'll be seeing messages along the lines of "the card's performance has been lowered due to power deficiency", or something like that. It's also a safer bet to go with an SLI-certified PSU just in case you would like to pursue that path in the future.

Performance: coupled with a decent enough CPU you're guaranteed to see impressive 3D Mark results right out of the box. I haven't had the chance to fully test it yet with a variety of demanding games, but I've been playing Assassin's Creed at full settings without any issues (it does show some vertical lines across the screen when it is being pushed to the absolute limit, but that's nothing that can't be fixed by overclocking). Another resource intensive game that I play at absolute maximum (with full anti-aliasing) is Neverwinter nights 2: mask of the betrayer. Again, not so much as a hiccup.

I will recommend, however, that you have ample cooling in your case; preferably having either direct air cooling for the card itself, or some pretty solid water cooling. With a thermaltake full tower case, running 6 fans, the card is stable in the low 40's.

If you're using an older generation card, such as the nVidia 8's or 9's, you will immediately notice an improvement in performance. I Would highly recommend this card to anyone. MSI, of course, have outdone themselves again with this card, and even provide a custom overclocking utility and custom-made drivers.
