Wish I could give it negative stars - A. Begun, Nov 16, 2009

I let this piece of garbage churn my dvd drive for several hours while it tried to install itself on my Vista machine. Finally it crapped out with 20 seconds to go. I am now installing it in safe mode as per the Punch site suggestions but lets face it, if you can't write software that can install itself it is highly unlikely the software is worth the box it is wrapped in.

Excellent option - Patricia G., Nov 09, 2009

I read the above comments and, as a Punch user in general and as user of this version in particular, I'd like to add my review
Many users talked about "other CAD programs". A CAD program and a Home Design Program mean 2 different concepts. The focus of the CAD packages is on drawing and precision, the Home Design programs (like Punch) are focused on design. This means that if you draw a rectangle in CAD, this can be a wall, a machine, or just a rectangle. In Punch, a wall means only a wall, it will have all the properties of a wall and you'll see a wall in 3D. The main feature is the program's capability to understand your design and interact with the design elements. For this reason, Punch needs the specs of all the elements (thickness, elevation, etc) in order to show all the parameters
In this version, Punch introduced the "Quick Start" tool, a fast way to enter into the Punch world. Using this feature, you can play with the different rooms, dimensions and layouts to get your floorplan. Then, you can add windows, doors, furniture, customize colors and materials, etc.
Punch has an extensive library of furniture and objects, but if you like to design your own furniture, this is not a problem! You have the 3D Workshop Tool (I don't know other Home Design program with a tool like this!) In addition, most of the manufacturers have 3D furniture or fixtures in 3DS format or Skecthup format: Punch imports both
When you are done, you can customize the framing / structural setting and estimate the materials of your project
Perhaps, it will be a good idea for future versions, the return to the old menus / interfaces; they were more explicit for the first time user
Granted, the program has a learning curve (as with any program or new tool), but it is time well invested because you will be able to see in 3D how you house will look like before the real construction begins, avoiding unpleasant design surprises. I definitely recommend this product

Does not work using Windows 7 - Electronic Technician, Nov 03, 2009

The program will load and is usable using Windows XP SP3 (which I had). But then I upgraded to Windows 7 and expect the program to work on that operating system as advertized. It will not load and in fact it will crash Windows 7 although the manual claims it will run on "Windows XP or higher". If you are using Windows 7 use this program ONLY if the software states clearly that it will run on Windows 7. I went to the Punch website to see if there was a fix to my problem--there is, if I am willing to pay $70 for the upgrade--NO THANKS! I have already spent my money for a product that doesn't work as advertized; why should I be a fool twice? I am done with this product unless Punch! software does the right thing and fixes my problems with Windows 7 AT NO additional cost--(I only purchased this product two months ago). If Punch! software makes it right with me--I will report it back to this site.

What a Waste of Money - G. Dannunzio, Nov 02, 2009

Prior to the purchase of this program I called Punch to ask specific questions regarding the software functions. After he answered all my questions he convinced me it was exactly what I needed/wanted. WOW was I fooled. This software is very limited and it really provides the user with nothing more than a game of attempting to design a house or deck. Unfortunately, it will not generate a set of plans, the framing wizard does not provide specifics and calculate the location of beams and posts.

I called customer service and was on the phone 72 minutes. Although the person who helped me was excellent, he concluded that the program is pretty much a way for a person to draw a concept to take to an architect. The reality is the program is so clumsy and the graphics so bad it is a colossal waste of time. If that's not bad enough try to print a sketch of the graphics. They are so poor due to the background colors and the light colors of the lines.

After paying for overnight shipping out of $72 my return is only $27. DO NOT BUY THIS PROGRAM unless you want to waste a lot of time and have a useless end product.

Punch Home And Landscape Design Suite Rocks - jojo, Oct 29, 2009

For the other reviews that had issues with the auto generated roof. How about turning it off, this way you can draw it on manually.

RE: Install Issues
UAC in Vista keeps other software titles from installing also.
This isn't a Punch thing but a Windows (Bill Gates) thing.

I think the software is great for the price. I does floor plans and elevations to scale.
It also does the framing. It allows you to change stud walls to steel stud, Concrete or concrete block.
It will also do the electrical, plumbing, landscaping, decks. It also gives a material list/ count.

I use autocad but the Punch software is much faster and cheaper. It allows for the 3d walk thru, adding materials and is a full landscaping software. SOunds like the bad reviewer's need to read the manual or spend more than 15 minites with the software.
Punch also offers a 90 Day money back refund. How can you go wrong.
