Motorola SB5120 modem - J. Karol, May 08, 2008

Works great. Don't even need the setup CD. I just used the Comcast install CD and in a few minutes was up and running.

Seems to work! - Jason9x19, May 08, 2008

While I am a tech person (and by tech person I mean I work in IT professionally, not that I'm one of those pretentious hobbyists who likes to tell people they are "savvy"), I am not enough of a tech person to tout anything about how it polishes my packets as they pass through or that it has convinced the Fed to lower the signal-to-noise ratio on my connection. What I can tell you is this: My cable Internet provider provided an SB5100 and it worked fine. Problem was they were charging me $5 a month to "rent" it. So I bought this SB5120. And my line? It still works fine. And I'm not paying them $5/mo to rent a $50 piece of equipment. So, I've gone from satisfied to satisfied. That's pretty much my review.

I will say that the unit itself has a reasonably small form factor (considerably smaller than those older Surfboard modems) and unlike my old DSL modem, I don't hear a 800000000000Hz whine when the thing is plugged in, which makes my sanity happy. Also, the Standby button is pretty awesome, since it doesn't actually drop your connection.

All in all, there's nothing I don't like about this thing. So my relatively technically ignorant review yields four stars.

Works Great - R. Carr, May 07, 2008

Connects me to the internet with comcast (who took over my insight service). I haven't noticed any speed issues, and I have to transfer large files for research, so I'm happy. This is also what the local technicians recommended I use (rather than the random Atlanta-Scientific brand that comcast uses).

Installation and Operation of SB5120 Cable Modem - H. Majors, May 05, 2008

The SB5120 was easy to install and put into operation. I had never installed a cable modem or wireless router. I knew nothing about installing these. However, the instructions that came with the modem were simple and easy to understand. It took about 5 minutes to install. The modem has been in operation for approximately 1 month with no issues. It's working great.

good unit - buffalochip, Apr 23, 2008

I recently got charter cable high speed. Took the Unit out of the box, plugged it in, called the cable company and gave them my mac number and it went to work. Had no problems. It seems like a good unit. I like the internet disconnect button on the top of the unit. It allows me to leave my computers on and not connected when I'm not going to be offline for a while.
