The Sony VRDMC5 is very easy to use. I bought it to copy
VHS tapes to DVD. The full VHS tapes don't fit on one DVD.
There appears to be no way to shrink the image to fit.
ohwell! Mission is partially accomplished!

Bought this product and it has met all my expectations.

I read a lot of the reviews before buying and concentrated on the ones where people's expectations were not met. I think you need to read and understand what the product says it will do -- it appears some people set expectations that were out of line with the products capabilities. For example: it was stated the product will not copy rental dvds -- it doesn't say it can do that. It will not copy copyrighted material -- the maker is Sony people they are not going to violate copyright laws.

For me:

I had old 8mm tape to convert -- did it very simply and with very good quality using the s-video connection and standard audio hook-up.

My wife wanted some of our DVR material cut to dvd -- did it - easy hook-up and copy procedure. It will not copy DVR material the is copyrighted.

Old vhs conversion -- done easily.

Picture slide shows from digital camera using the storage card -- a snap.

You need to read the instructions to do some of the finer points - add music - chapter set-up - etc.

Seems worth the price to me for the versitility and ease of use. But don't expext more that they promise.

Best thing I every bought! - A Mom, May 09, 2008

In one day this thing has already proven it's worth. I have several VHS home movies from over 12 ago years of my first husband, who has since passed away. For years now I have worried about preserving them for our daughter, who was only a baby at the time. I checked many places who could copy the videos for me but they wanted a LOT of money and then had to send the videos out. I worried about them getting lost or damaged and then I would have nothing. This machine has copied all my movies beautifully!

I just plugged my VCR right into the machine and started recording. It was so easy! When I was done, I played the movies on my DVD player just to make sure they copied and I was shocked at how well they turned out. They look better on DVD than they did on the original VHS tape.

It is perfect, painless and simple to use. The small screen helps a lot to transfer video with out the need of a lot of cables to connect a TV to see what are you recording. Fast DVD formating and great quality of final product.

A co-worker told me about this product and I ordered it the next day. I have about 250 VHS tapes and storage was becoming a problem. I weeded out the ones I'd never watch again and then began transferring about 100 of all my favorite and classics tapes (All About Eve, The Unforgiven (new classic), Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid, et al.) to DVDs. It is extremely easy to do. You will love this. Great for making photo DVDs or putting digital video on DVDs too.
