Great USB Soundcard - Michael L. Breslin, Nov 11, 2009

This external USB soundcard is great. I purchased it in order to be able to feed 5.1 surround sound from my PC into my Receiver and 5.1 speakers via S/PDIF optical cable, and it works great. The catch is that the sound will come across as stereo, as this card will not decode the 5.1 encoded sound (Dolby Digital Sound, DTS, etc.). So the test signal will come across as stereo, but when you play a DVD or stream TV shows or movies (Netflix, etc.) through the optical cable, the receiver decodes the stereo signal and it comes out as glorious 5.1 sound. Had it for a few months with zero problems or issues. I've had no problems running it under both Windows 7 64-bit (RC) and 32-bit (RTM) versions.

a great sound card with one flaw - wireless1234, Oct 13, 2009

it is a great usb sound card with very easy installation and awsome feature. the effect is very very nice for watching movie and playing game especilly when you buy it as turtle beach ear force ak-r8(which include this sound card and a headphone). although i love it very much,i have to return it for refund only because one flaw, i buy this card because i need "stereo mix" for certain type of online game playing, and i found out that the recording level of "stereo mix" is 50% lower than what you actully hear in you headphone even though i have push the recording level to the utmost position, so in order to make people on the other side of computer hear what i am playing on my own computer clearly i have to take off my headphone ,otherwise my eardrum will be hurt. i hope this review will be helpful for people who also need 'stereo mix' for the same purpose. so you won't lose twenty bucks on shipping and returning as me.

Amazing Sound Card for Vista Laptops - Stardreamers, Jun 06, 2009

This sound card is simply amazing. First, it installed seamlessly on my Vista 64bit laptop. To compare, on my older XP laptop, I have the PCMCIA Audigy 2 (one great soundcard); this card is as good and as loud. It actually has better tonal separation, and it easily takes to equalization better, in my opinion. It has a rich full sound. It can also be removed really easy without harming the system or, just as important, the Vista settings. Try removing the Audigy 2...forgetta bout it--that card is married to the computer.
This Turtle Beach sound card also has an amazing amount of connection options. I have an old, but LOUD, Logitech Z560 4.1 and this card has the ability to play them. The new Creative sound card for laptops requires a separate docking station, which came stock with my Audigy 2. Boo! The Turtle Beach SRM comes with all of the necessary connections, and two built in mic's to boot. It's way cheaper as well!
All is not equal though. The Creative card, and I assume the new one too, but I don't know for sure, came with tons and tons of useful software: fast rippers and converters and mp3 players and on and on. Turtle Beach is a little sparse in that area, no, very sparse. They must assume that their users already have such software. I do for XP, but it would have been great to have a new stock of audio software for Vista. No matter, I have since secured the basics required.
Bottom line, if your looking for a solid, excellent sounding USB card (uses about 10-12 percent of my cpu when in use with NO SKIPS) for laptops running Vista (or XP, desktops etc. ) then I seriously recommend this card. I love all kinds of music, but especially old metal played loud--this thing delivers the crystal shimmering sound waves on par with Audigy 2 (and kills Realtek 5.1) which will be sure to make you smile.
I had high expectations, and Turtle Beach met them and beat them.

Tiny, good quality, bit expensive - M. Conrad, Mar 15, 2009

I bought one of these along with a Sabrent External USB Soundcard, with the idea I would use the better one on my personal computer and the other on the livingroom PC.

I've had a bad experience with turtle beacha long time ago, but I have to say this product seems very nicely made. Its compact, the connectors seem to be high quality, it comes with a bunch of cables of decent length, and it even works under Linux.

I wasn't really able to tell the difference in sound quality vs. the Sabrent box, but I chose this one for my main comp simply for the linux compatibility. I'm not entirely happy with the price, but I feel that I've also gained a 7.1 surround option for my laptop, which could be handy if visiting a friend and watching a movie. The surround cable is 6' long, it plugs into a single jack on the device and splits out to 3 stereo headphone jacks at the other end.

Problems so far ... Updated - Michael Douglas, Jan 22, 2009

I bought the Audio Advantage SRM to drive my newly acquired Logitech X-540 5.1 speaker system on my Vista-inflicted laptop. I was unable to install the thing at first due to a PID error in the unit, but I was finally able to get it done after using a utility available on Turtle Beach's web site. The AA SRM worked like gangbusters - we was rockin' the house - and I was a happy man. However, when I booted up the next morning I discovered to my dismay that I was getting no output from my left front speaker. I tried everything I could think of to get it back - checking Vista's sound settings, combing Turtle Beach's FAQ for a clue, uninstalling, re-installing to different USB ports - I even used System Restore to bring Vista back to a point before the original SRM install, and then re-installing. That worked for a while, but the speaker eventually disappeared again. Is the Audio Advantage SRM a good product? I'm sure it is, but in my case the jury's out until I can get it working properly. As of this writing, my query to Turtle Beach's Support has gone unanswered.

Update on 02/09/09:
I was finally able to get the SRM working properly by upgrading DirectX from v9.0c to v10. The device is working perfectly, and it's a very good product.
