- GAMING, STEELSERIES SIBERIA SOUNDCRD
The SteelSeries Siberia USB soundcard offers a consistent sound experience allowing gamers to always play with the exact same sound and settings, no matter where in the world - or at what computer they are playing. This product was designed for gamers with onboard soundcards and/or gamers who regularly find themselves playing at third party computers. The 12 channel equalizer allows for tweaking to personal preferences, while the built-in effects processor can provide ambience and other effects. The USB soundcard supports the following systems: Win XP/Win 2000/Win 98/Win ME/Mac OS/Windows Vista. Available in both white and black editions. Average Rating of 3.50 out of 6 reviews
Rating : Horrible issues, not sure if they are card related or not. - Christopher J. Ream, May 07, 2009
Over all this external sound card seems to do the trick. It is compact, it is loud, it is great for recording through, but it seems to give off static every now and then, and it seems that when I feed it into an external mixer board that the static noise created is HORRID!
Though I'm not sure if it is all the fault of the card or something else....
None the less, if you internal sound is out, or your head phone jack is busted (which is my scenario) then for the money, this ain't half bad. It seems hardly any one else is having the same issues so why not try one out?
Rating : Works OK - Jeffrey LaPorta, Feb 27, 2009
I bought this because my soundboard went on my old laptop. Installation was a little harder than I thought. You have to tell WMP to sync to it, same for Skye. It playe no sound from any other source. No System sounds, no youtube sound, no corporate presentations online sound, no DVD sound. Also, when using the USB headset, the mic is always on, even when you are not on a call.
Rating : Plug and play! - C. Simon, Jan 23, 2009
I plugged it in, I started FL Studio and I got better latency times than I got with the (terrible) onboard soundcard I had on my extra computer. It's a real time saver to be able to use all the computers in the house to jot down musical ideas. I know this sound card is for video games but the sound is much better than the onboard sound in all but one of my four computers, and that's without installing the included software or drivers. I'm trully impressed. Can't say how it works for games but it a great portable soundcard to me. The cords a little long, that's about my only gripe with it.
Rating : Works with Windows 7. Cable arrangement is sub-optimal. - Bryan Lockwood, Jan 16, 2009
I'm already running the Windows Seven beta, and my laptop's built-in AC '97 sound card, alas, doesn't seem to have proper drivers. So I bought one of these (and it was delivered the very next day). It works great, both audio out and mic in. I use it for Skype and have no problems.
It's pretty small; about the size of my thumb. Not clear in the illustration is the fact that at the rounded end, it has a female USB mini-jack. Comes with a six foot cord that's normal USB on one end (for plugging into your computer) and male mini-USB on the other, for plugging into the audio device. This is an unwieldy arrangement. It would have been better to just have a normal USB male plug integrated into the audio device, so that it could plug directly into computer without need for an extra cord. I get that some computers may place the USB jack in hard-to reach places; for that scenario SteelSeries could include a male-female USB cord.
Because of the USB cord arrangement I deduct two stars. But functionally the device works fine. I also purchased the SteelSeries "Siberia" earbud headset, which I was less pleased with, and will review separately.
Rating : Superior Product - Krazyeyeskilla, Dec 29, 2008
Great product. Works extremely well as a replacement soundcard. I broke my laptop headphone jack when I tripped over the cord while running on my treadmill. I use my laptop for music and listen with the headphones (loud) so I don't disturb the family. I was mortified when I broke the jack and searched the internet exhaustively for a good product after I couldn't find anything similar in my local Circuit City or Best Buy. Luckily I found this product. I was up and running in less than 2 minutes. Very easy volume control manipulation. I have Windows XP Professional. A minor beef I have is that it comes with a separate USB cord/cable that connects the device to the computer. It would have been better with no cord and a direct connection like a thumb drive. Still, I can't say enough how impressed I am with the product. Highly recommended.
