USB printer cables connect printers to a computer through the universal serial bus (USB) port. One connector is a small rectangular plug designed to fit into the port, while the other end matches the port on the printer or its adapter. They allow printers to be plugged in without restarting the computer, although drivers may still be required for the printer to function properly. Many printers have USB interfaces and may be directly connected, but others use serial or parallel ports and require adapters to connect via USB.
Hub support: If you are using a networked computer, make sure it can connect to a USB hub to be shared by the entire network. High-speed cables usually drop to Low-speed rates when connected to a hub, unless the hub is also high-speed.
Length: Choose a USB printer cable at least six feet long to allow enough room for movement. Avoid those that are too long because they can clutter your workspace and can slow down data rates.
