Web server software accepts and responds to HTTP requests from web browsers, known as clients. It serves HTTP responses and optional data contents, usually HTML documents and linked objects such as images. It is also used for logging detailed information on client requests and server responses.

The Apache web server software is a free or “open source” software. It is the most popular server software. It has approximately 70% of the market share.

Sun web server software
The Sun web server software is specially designed to work with Netscape browsers. It has around 3% of the market share.
