A wireless mouse uses Bluetooth or radio frequency (RF) to connect to a computer instead of a cable. It allows a wider range of movement, since the mouse is not restrained by cables. An RF mouse usually requires a receiver connected to the USB or PS/2 port. A Bluetooth wireless mouse does not require a receiver, but it can only connect to a Bluetooth-enabled computer or a compatible Bluetooth adapter.
A wireless wheel mouse has a center wheel used for scrolling up and down a document or a webpage. Older models have sensitive wheels underneath to detect movement. Newer ones have built-in optical lenses to cover more surface area.
Wireless optical mouse
A wireless optical mouse used LED light sensors to track cursor movement. It can be used on any smooth surface and requires less cleaning, because there are no moving parts that can accumulate dust.
Minimum system requirements: Before buying a wireless mouse, make sure your computer meets its minimum system requirements such as hard drive space, operating system (OS), and memory.
Programmable buttons: Choose a wireless mouse with programmable buttons that allows you to set shortcuts for accessing frequently used applications.
Bluetooth connectivity: Choose a Bluetooth wireless mouse if you need to operate the computer from a large distance, such as during presentations. Most Bluetooth devices have a range of 10 meters, including physical barriers.
