Center channel speakers play the primary sound layers in videos and keep sound synchronized with the image. They also separate sounds in multi-channel music to distribute them to other speakers in the system. In a typical speaker system, the center channel speaker plays about 50% of the sound, including the dialogues. They are usually connected to the video source and mounted close to the television to maintain synchrony between sound and image.
Size: Choose a center channel speaker that fits into the available space in your entertainment system. If you are placing them on a shelf, leave a few inches of clearance on either side to protect the shelf from the heat. Consider sound quality as well – bigger speakers are more powerful, but do not distinguish sound layers as efficiently as smaller speakers. Channels: Choose a center channel speaker with at least one tweeter and a subwoofer. This will ensure proper layering of sound and distribute sound more evenly. If you have a small space, look for a one-piece speaker with a woofer and left and right tweeters. Voice-matching: Make sure your center channel speaker directs sound streams properly to the left and right speakers. To avoid mismatching, choose one made by the same manufacturer as the other components, or ask your dealer which brands will work with your player.
