| FireWire cables, also called 1394-1995 or IEEE-1394 cables, are used for transmitting data quickly from one computer to another without too much networking configuration. They are similar to USB ports, but they offer higher speed data transferring, usually 400 to 800 megabits per second (Mbps). They consist of two connectors—one connector on each end. They come in lengths ranging from two to 15 feet. They are available in 6-pin to 6-pin, 6-pin to 4-pin, 9-pin to 6-pin, and retractable types that can be used with scanners, digital cameras, camcorders, printers, and storage devices for document processing, multimedia applications, and desktop publishing. |
