Fish Finder : What is it?
| Fish finders are sonar devices designed to locate fish through sound signals. They determine whether a certain area is abundant or lacking of fish. Made to be mounted on the deck of a boat, fish finders can cover fresh- and saltwater to help beginner and experienced anglers discover more fish.
Fish finders use sonar technology to scan the area near and underneath the boat. They provide information on water depth, bottom soil structure, hidden fish schools, reefs, shipwrecks, and other large objects seen underwater. They can also identify underwater thermal changes where fish are likely to congregate. |

Kinds of Fish Finders include the following: |
Fixed fish finders
- Fixed fish finders are designed to be permanently mounted on the boat deck.
- Once mounted on a desired position, they can never be repositioned or taken out, unless they need to be replaced.
- They have wiring systems that are easy to hide underneath the bow and floorboards.
- They are available in color and grayscale models.
- They are durable and stable enough to withstand the bumpy movements of the boat.
- They cannot be moved to the exact area on the boat that needs to be monitored. Instead, it is the boat that adjusts to the location they point to.
Portable fish finders
- Portable fish finders are designed to be temporarily mounted on the boat deck. They can be carried and transported from one place to another.
- They can be installed and taken out of the boat easily and quickly.
- They are ideal for anglers who do not have their own vessels and only rent one when fishing.
- They are smaller and more compact than the fixed models.
However, they are not as durable. They are available in color and grayscale models.
