Guide to Intercoms

Intercom : What is it?

intercom1

Typical intercoms consist of at least two units that can communicate to each other usually using ‘Push to Talk’ (PTT) systems. A larger intercom system can have several fixed microphone and speaker units connected to a central control panel. A small intercom system can connect a few rooms within a house, while a larger system can connect all the rooms in an entire building, school, or hospital.

An intercom is also used as a communication device in TV or stage productions, race car driving, broadcasting stations for making school or public announcements, rapid transit and passenger trains, and even in malls and theaters for making announcements. Intercoms can also double as security systems for monitoring guests entering and leaving a house or building. Some intercoms with integrated video functions can be used as baby monitors and security cameras.

Choosing Intercoms (Buying Tips)
