A marine TV antenna is a device specially made for use in boats for receiving television signals from TV satellites. It allows onboard television reception even when in the middle of the sea. It is made up of conductors that generate electromagnetic fields. Aside from television signals, it can also radio waves in both AM and FM frequencies.
A marine TV antenna is mounted high on a boat to get the clearest reception. Because it is exposed to saltwater conditions, it is made to be resistant to rust and corrosion.
Filters: Look for a marine TV antenna with a high gain but made with hand-tuned filters to reduce distortion and intermod at a minimum. You can also look for one with filters that reduce interference from two-way radio stations, FM stations, and paging transmitters. It should have at least 10 separate filter adjustments for viewing the filters' passband using a network analyzer, and for ensuring razor sharp interference rejection.
Construction: Choose a marine TV antenna that is well sealed and injected with polyurethane foam to prevent water entry. It should come with a continuous low loss coaxial cable. If a splice is needed, make sure it is sealed completely with coax-seal, not electrical tape or shrink tubing. Lightning protection: A marine TV antenna is not safe from direct lightning hit, so look for one with an anti-lightning feature such as a static discharge protection circuit. Warranty: Look for a marine TV antenna with a 10 year pro-rated warranty for service and quality assurance.
