Plasma TV : What is it?
| Plasma TVs consist of two glass panels containing several tiny cells, each representing one pixel and containing a mixture of neon and xenon gas. To produce an image, a current is passed through the cells, converting the gas into a plasma and individually lighting up each pixel. This method allows a larger viewing area without making them heavy and bulky. Plasma TVs range from 32 to over 100 inches, and most models are less than four inches thick. They are also much brighter than other flat-panel displays and have a longer functional life, usually lasting up to 60,000 hours. |

Screen size: Consider both the wall or floor space and available viewing distance when choosing a screen size for your plasma display. A 42-inch set is best viewed from a distance to 10 feet, while screens over 50 inches across require 15 feet or more between the screen and the viewer.
Resolution and aspect ratio: Choose a plasma TV with a resolution of at least 1024 x 720 and a 16:9 aspect ratio if you want to view HDTV channels and wide-screen format DVDs. |
