Hi, I've installed one of these in my house as well as my mothers, no where is there plyers needed. You use a screw driver to tighten/loosen the the connections. Speakercraft is a is a USA baed company from California and make top quality products. The product is great, it also has Impedance Protection so you dont fry your reciever/amp/speakers.

Too bad I can't give it negative stars. What a piece of junk! The designer of this unit should not have a job in electronics, or any job that takes brains. Go clerk at 7/11 please!
It is so bad, not just in how lousy it works, but in it's design from the get-go. I will never buy any product from a company that designed this thing.
Prying the levers that you need to in order to connect the speaker wires is nearly impossible - you could break your fingers doing it and if you use pliers, which you will have to, the unit breaks.
I just replaced mine with a unit (Sima) that works far better, is far easier to set up, and costs 1/3 the price. I threw my SpeakCraft in the trash.
