- 2-way, tuned-vent bookshelf speakers with wide, 43 to 20,000 Hz frequency response for deep bass and extended treble
- 90 dB sensitivity; recommended for use with amplifiers pushing 10 to 150 watts per channel
- 6-inch poly/graphite woofer, .75-inch poly dome tweeter per speaker
- Video-shielded for distortion-free placement near televisions or computer monitors
- Measures inches 8.9 x 14.8 x 9.1 (W x H x D) each
Top-notch components yield a stunningly accurate bookshelf-size speaker! Custom designed 3/4" tweeter delivers crystal-clean undistorted upper mid and high frequencies. The 6" poly/graphite woofer is light yet rigid for tight, accurate extended bass. Rear-enclosure patented "Venturi" vent further extends deep low frequency performance. It is ideal for use with all surround and music formats. Attention, all bass lovers needing small speakers: this stately pair of Venturi DV62si bookshelf speakers from BIC America uses a patented and specially tuned rear-panel Venturi port to extend the its low-frequency response to an impressive 43 Hz, nearly a full octave below the capabilities of most bookshelf speakers--the place where kick drums kick and bass guitars growl their deepest. The 2-way speakers would suitably fill out your home theater with surround sound, enliven your dorm or apartment with music, or provide gentle background ambience in your bedroom or business. Use one pair for stereo or surround applications or pick up 2 pairs (4 speakers) for use as the front and surround elements in a multichannel listening system. The speakers are magnetically shielded for distortion-free placement near your television or computer monitor. Video programs sound more lifelike and enveloping with timbrally matched speakers all around, and plenty of newer music formats--from the DTS surround CD to DVD-Audio and SACD--offer music from your favorite artists mixed expressly for surround-sound listening. (Alternately, you could use these as surround speakers with larger, floorstanding speakers for the front left/right channels.) Standing just under 15 inches tall, the DV62si speakers each use a custom-designed .75-inch, ferrofluid-cooled dome tweeter for extended high frequencies and a 6-inch poly/graphite-blend woofer is light yet rigid for tight, accurate, and remarkably extended bass. Rating : Good value - Tidewater, Aug 19, 2008
The Bic DC62si speakers represent very good value. They provide lots of volume with adequate clarity, and they sound quite different, depending on what amplifier I have used. Two amplifiers I no longer connect them to are a Harman-Kardon receiver and an AudioSource Amp 300. I now have them connected to a discontinued Carver THX amplifier rated at 180+ watts per channel, with an old but very good Carver preamp. The Carvers are very smooth and eliminate much of the raspiness (i.e., distortion), that I hear with the two other amps.
[Important to note that I also use a dedicated 20-amp outlet for all of my amps, because any transient worth its salt will draw close to the 15 amp limit of the normal household outlet, eliminating any "headroom." The 20 amps definitely make a difference. Also, any speakers I have are mounted on stands away from rear and side walls.]
The BICs are very sensitive and require very little volume on most musical source material (my choices are always either classical or jazz, not rock). So it is possible to overdrive them, but not at normal listening levels. And at these normal levels, it's possible to have a large, satisfying sound stage in my listening area, which is your typical L-shaped apartment living/dining area. Pay attention to BIC's recommendations on speaker placement, and you will hear pretty good sound. My other speakers include a pair of EPOS M5s and a now discontinued ATC SCM-10. At $650 and $1,500 per pair respectively, the differences do emerge quite clearly. In particular, Billy Woodman's SCM speakers are famous for being nearly free of distortion and smooth over their rated frequency ranges, which in his affordable models do not include much bass response. Room-filling sound you do not get with either the EPOSs or the ATCs. Listening up close in particular is mandatory for the SCMs (SCM stands for Studio Control Monitor).
All in all, if you are willing to tolerate some frequency discoloration and harmonic distortion--which are present in all speakers, to some extent-- but still obtain a valid stereo sound stage, the BICs are impossible to beat at their price, IMHO. You would have to go way up in price to better them sonically, and this would involve choosing more costly matching components as well.
Good luck!
Rating : Old school two channel system with these BICs, terrific sound! - J. Lee, Jul 29, 2008
The bass is quite robust, while the highs and mids are crisp. Hooked up to an Onkyo 8222 (with 50 watts each channel), these BICs sound terrific, whether you're listening to rock, instrumentals, or NPR. The speaker build is solid as well, durable enough to survive a cross-country move this past summer. Also of note, when purchased a couple years ago, the price was about one hundred bucks for a pair, which remains unchanged today. A superb buy overall.
Rating : top shelf sound at a discount price - george karlin, Jun 23, 2008
Have owned these for a little over a year, sound as good as speakers for 6X
the price.I compaired these with many speakers in a simular price range locally and these came in 2nd place. The Insignia NS-B2111 from Best Buy was my favorite overall but unfortunatly they were not magnetically shielded.Pass on the x-over mode hype, after a short break-in period they sound great.Very highly recommended.
Rating : Big sound, tiny box - Glen Thompson, Jun 18, 2008
We needed a small set of speakers for our 10 x 10 exercise room but didn't want to spend a lot of money or give up sound quality. These marvelous little speakers fit the bill on both counts.
Rating : Excellent for the price and size of Speakers - G. Burns, May 29, 2008
I purchased a pair of these speakers to replace 2 of the 5 Boston THX speakers that I have (I also have a pair of Fisher speakers to round out my 7/1 installation). The dual speaker cones in 2 of the 8 year old Boston speakers had begun to turn to powder, so it was time for a replacement. After reading some glowing reviews from Amazon.com customers I ordered a pair of the BIC America speakers and am very happy with the purchase.
Although the BIC speakers are much smaller and lighter than my Boston speakers (an added plus for this purchase btw), the sound quality is every bit as good as the Boston speakers ever were.
Some reviewers stated that the speakers were somewhat easier for the A/V receiver to drive at a lower volume level. I don't find that to be the case for me, I still have to have the volume level set pretty much at the same level as before. The end result though is a very clean and crisp sound from an inexpensive and quite small speaker. I highly recommend these speakers if your budget and space are limited, it is money well spent.
