Satellite Radio : What is it?

SatelliteRadios1

Satellite radios receive digital signals from communications satellites. Also called subscription radios, they have almost unlimited coverage because the satellites are stationed in space, rather than anchored to the ground like traditional radios. They operate at the 2.3 GHz band (S band) in North America, and at 1.4 GHz (Digital Audio Broadcasting) in other countries. Satellite radios require a subscription service and are often supplied by providers upon subscription. Sirius and XM Radio are two of the major satellite providers in North America.

Choosing Satellite Radios (Buying Tips)

Programmable channels: Choose a satellite radio that allows you to save the channels you regularly use for easier scanning. Look for one with an auto-program feature to filter out empty channels.

Recording: Look for a satellite radio that lets you record radio shows for later playback. Choose a radio with onboard memory or slots for removable media for saving and retrieving recorded shows.
