Satellite speakers are types of computer and home entertainment system speakers that are smaller and lighter than bookshelf speakers, allowing them to be easily placed around the computer or home theater system. However, their small size provides them with a limited frequency response that usually covers the mid-bass to upper frequencies only. Satellite speakers are commonly used in multi-channel audio systems and surround sound systems.
Kinds of Satellite Speakers include the following:
One-way satellite speakers
One-way satellite speakers have a single driver only. They usually have a three-inch range. They should be connected to a separate subwoofer to work well, as they do not get much bass response.
One-way satellite speakers are the most common satellite speakers available in the market.
Two-way satellite speakers
Two-way satellite speakers have two drivers--a large and a small one. The large driver is designed to generate bass and midrange frequencies. The smaller driver, on the other hand, is designed to generate higher frequencies.
Three-way satellite speakers
Three-way satellite speakers have three drivers, one for each level of frequency.
Compatibility and space: When choosing the number of satellite speakers for your computer or home entertainment system, consider the number of speakers your sound card can support and the space around your home theater system.
