Guide to Security Systems

Security System : What is it?

securitysystem1

Security systems monitor homes to prevent theft and break-ins. They are commonly installed in entrances, such as doors windows, and may be installed in one or several rooms. Most models have an alarm system that alerts residents of possible danger. Some also have a “silent alarm” feature, which automatically dials emergency numbers or local police when fire or forced entry is detected.

Kinds of Security Systems include the following:

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras

CCTV systems consist of one or more video cameras that record events in a particular area. Videos are fed by cable or wireless link to television receivers, or stored in a removable drive for later viewing. They are usually hidden or disguised as household ornaments, but some are made purposely visible to ward off intruders.

Motion detectors

Motion detectors pass an electrical current or infrared beam across an entryway, which is disrupted when someone enters. Some models are constantly on guard, while others have to be turned on and off whenever the door is opened.

Biometric security systems

Biometric security systems use fingerprint scanners, eye scanners, or other body identification methods to identify residents. Most homeowners find them awkward to use. They are more commonly used in factories and office buildings.

Choosing Security Systems (Buying Tips)

Switch: Choose a security system that you can turn on from outside the house, so that you can keep leave it on when the house is empty. Look for one with a remote control to let you deactivate the alarm from your car, which may be useful when you are carrying several shopping bags into the house.

Power: Choose a security system that runs on both battery and AC power. This will allow you to hook up to your home electrical system, reserving the batteries for backup in case of a power failure.
