Telephone : What is it?
| Telephones are home and office devices designed for making simultaneous two-way voice communication. They are made up of a receiver with a microphone at the bottom for talking and a speaker at the top for listening, and a base unit with a flash, a keypad, and buttons such as redial and hold. The telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876. The first telephones used to transmit and receive sound waves through an electromagnetic coil and a harmonic telegraph. Over time, the line and connection systems gradually improved according to the available technology. Today, telephones use fiber optics to transmit data not just for communication but for Internet, phone banking, and customer service applications as well. |

They are ideal for large businesses and corporate offices. They can hold more than 100 outside lines and extensions. They require the use of one or more T1 lines to effectively handle all the calls. Most models are designed with voice mail systems that usually have multiple ports to prevent missed calls. |
