Direct-view TVs

Flat-panel TVs

  • Flat panel TVs are sophisticated, super-slim units designed to be mounted on walls or stands.
  • They produce crisp and bright images using plasma technology or liquid crystal display (LCD) panels.
  • They provide outstanding resolution, contrast, and brightness ratio.
  • Their screens can measure up to 61 inches.

Rear-projection TVs

  • Rear-projection TVs are designed with big screens that produce sharp and bright images when viewed in front.
  • They produce dimmer images when viewed from the side or at a higher or lower angle.
  • They are designed to be placed on top of tables and cabinets.
  • They commonly use LCD technology to produce images.
  • Their screens can measure up to 61 inches.

  • Front-projection TVs are made up of two components: a screen and a projector.
  • They usually feature a large but lightweight, and space-saving design, making them ideal for home theater systems.
  • They produce clear images that are not as bright and crisp as smaller TV types.
  • They are designed to function well in areas with reduced lighting or in total darkness.

Choosing TVs (Buying Tips)

Screen size: To get crisp and life-like images, choose a TV with a standard screen size of 36 to 40 inches. A TV with a very small screen produce vivid pictures, but they are too small to project small, relevant details. A TV with a very large screen, on the other hand, usually produces detailed but blurry images.

Screen resolution: To get best resolution and detailed images, choose a high-definition LCD or a plasma TV with a resolution of 852 by 480.
