Kinds of Wireless Security Cameras include the following:

Standard wireless security camera

A standard wireless security camera is equipped with a transmitter and a receiver. It functions like a regular TV camera. The transmitter and receiver replace the function of a regular TV cable. It is connected to the transmitter, while the receiver is connected to the recording device. It is commonly used in residential units, offices, hotels, banks, and public places.

Wireless security IP camera

A wireless security IP camera can be accessed using a computer for a more convenient and secure use. It has a network adapter that requires connection to a switch or a router. It is easier to use than a standard model. It is generally expensive.

900 MHz wireless security camera

A 900 MHz wireless security camera uses an amateur band. You will need an amateur license to operate one. It usually has four channels.

The signals are sent to a receiver tuned in to 902 to 930 MHz frequencies. It has a tuning knob that must be constantly adjusted to produce clear and sharp pictures. The signals it transmits usually do not interfere with the signals of a cordless phone operating in the same frequency.

2 Ghz wireless security camera

A 1.2 Ghz wireless security camera has a high resolution and medium range video transmission. It offers excellent video and image quality and range especially when mounted on a wall or ceiling. It offers a clear signal transmission up to 300 feet on areas without any electrical interference.

4 Ghz wireless security camera

A 2.4 Ghz wireless security camera has four channels without any tuning requirement. It has a video quality better than in a 900 MHz or a 1.2 Ghz model. It has a video range of 200 to 700 feet, depending on the condition of the environment. However, it is prone to interferences, as it operates in the same frequency microwave ovens and cordless phones do.

8 Ghz wireless security camera

A 5.8 Ghz wireless security camera is the latest and the most effective wireless security equipment available. It can record and view videos up to four channels. It operates in frequencies between 5725 to 5825. It has a direct line-of-sight range of up to 3,000 feet, and does not operate in a radio frequency from a public band, making it immune to interferences.

Choosing Wireless Security Cameras (Buying Tips)

Resolution: Choose a wireless security camera with a resolution of 400 to  500 television lines (TVL) for clearer and more detailed pictures. Just make sure your entire security system can support the resolution.

Light sensitivity: Look for a wireless security camera with a lower lux measurement (usually 0.5) to give it excellent light sensitivity for use in poorly-lit areas.
